Ukraine plans to put forward new conditions for peace in Donbass at the Normandy Summit

The office of the Ukrainian president noted that they count on the support of Germany and France.

According to TASS, on Saturday, the deputy head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Igor Zhovkva, said that Ukraine expects to hold a summit in the “Normandy format” this year, at which it intends to put forward its own conditions for establishing peace in Donbass.

“In 2021, we aim to hold the next summit in the Normandy format. Its strategic task will be to discuss the key issue of establishing peace in Donbass on Ukrainian terms”, – he wrote in a column for the Ukrainian edition of Mirror of the Week.

“Here and further we count on the support of our partners in the Normandy format – Germany and France”.

According to him, the tactical tasks in the negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Donbass remain the preservation of the ceasefire, the revitalization of the contact group in Minsk, the exchange of detainees, the maintenance of the work of the existing points of entry and exit on the contact line and the opening of new ones, the separation of forces in new areas, demining and ensuring the smooth work of the staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the OSCE. In addition, Zhovkva assured, Kiev will continue to work on the implementation of the agreements of the Paris summit of the Normandy Four.

The office of the President of Ukraine does not intend to abandon the idea of ​​promoting sanctions against Russia.

“The sanctions against Russia help Ukraine in the process of a peaceful settlement, therefore, they must be maintained until the status quo is fully restored <…>,” – the deputy head of the office stressed.
