French newspaper Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace reported that about 60 cars were burned in Strasbourg and other cities in the Bas-Rhine department during street riots that took place on New Year’s Eve.
The first reports of arson began to arrive at about 7 pm on 31 December from the western region of Strasbourg. After midnight, there were reports of burning cars from the communes of Münzig, Saverne and Ostald.
Law enforcement agencies managed to detain 20 people overnight.
