The Pakistan Army, violating the terms of the ceasefire agreement on the Line of Control in Kashmir, has fired mortar shells at Indian troop positions and localities in Mendhar and Balakot sectors in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian troops returned fire, the Pioneer newspaper on Saturday quoted the Indian Defence Ministry as saying. There were no reports of casualties or damage on the Indian side.

The ceasefire agreement in Kashmir between India and Pakistan has been in force since 1999. According to the Indian military, about 30 civilians were killed and more than 100 injured in more than 3,200 ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Kashmir in 2020.
