Lukashenko: Belarus’ response to European sanctions will be painful for Western countries

The President of Belarus noted that the Republic of Belarus is interested in non-conflict and effective cooperation with other countries, including Western ones

The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has said that the measures that the republic will take in response to the EU sanctions will be painful for the European community. This was reported by the BelTA agency on Tuesday.

“Any pressure on us, let alone the imposition of some sanctions… I declare honestly and openly: Similar answers will follow, and they will be more painful for the European community above all. Therefore, we should not go down this road”, –  said the President of the Republic at the ceremony of presenting credentials from ambassadors of foreign countries.

Lukashenko noted that Belarus is interested in non-conflict and effective cooperation with other countries, including Western ones.

To date, the EU has introduced two blocks of sanctions against Minsk, the measures have affected 55 representatives of the country’s leadership, including Lukashenko and representatives of law enforcement agencies. All of them are banned from entering the EU, and their accounts in European banks, if found, are subject to freezing.
