Trump lowers refugee admission limit to record low

In fiscal year 2020, this limit was 18 thousand people, and then it was almost halved compared to 2019, when the figure was 30 thousand people.

According to UNN, the US President Donald Trump has lowered the refugee admission limit in fiscal 2021 (started on October 1) to 15 thousand people – the minimum level since 1980.

“The admission of up to 15,000 refugees to the United States during fiscal 2021 is justified by humanitarian considerations or is otherwise in the national interest”, – the White House said in a memorandum circulated Wednesday night.

“As the President stressed, individuals from countries such as Yemen, Syria and Somalia cannot be accepted as refugees, except for those whose situation is of particular humanitarian concern”.
