Kyrgyz capital imposed curfew amid political crisis

Citizens and stateless persons are prohibited from taking to the streets of Bishkek from 21:00 to 05:00.

The curfew was imposed due to the political crisis. After the parliamentary elections, the opposition, which was not supported by the people, refused to recognize the results of the voting and started riots in Bishkek. According to preliminary data from the mayor’s office, the damage caused to the city by extremists is estimated at $213,000, but the calculation has not yet been completed.

Earlier, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov has already signed a decree on the introduction of a state of emergency in Bishkek. Now the commandant of the capital Almazbek Orozaliev has ordered a curfew.

“On the territory of Bishkek, from 21:00 to 05:00, a curfew is introduced for all citizens and stateless persons, with the exception of state and municipal employees who carry out and promote the activities of the commandant’s office”, – the document says.
