Azerbaijan recalled its Ambassador to Greece for consultations

This decision was taken in connection with reports of recruitment in Karabakh.

Azerbaijan has recalled its Ambassador to Greece for consultations on reports of the involvement of Greek nationals in the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. The press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry announced this on Thursday.

“The Azerbaijani side brought to the attention of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs the reports of open sources on the arrival of foreign nationals, including Greek nationals of Armenian origin, to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan to take part in the battles, and requested the opposite side to conduct an investigation. Following this, in connection with the decision of the Greek side to withdraw its Ambassador for consultations, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Greece was summoned to Baku for consultations,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece made a decision to recall for consultations the Ambassador to Baku Nikolaos Piperigos after, as the Ministry reports, statements of the Azerbaijani government on the alleged tolerance of the Greek state to the preparation of terrorist acts, attempts to recruit terrorist fighters and cyberattacks from Greek territory to Azerbaijan in the context of the conflict over Nagorno Karabakh.
