Greece: around 10,000 migrants settle in a new campground

According to the Deputy Minister of Migration of Greece, Notis Mitarakis, the acute migration crisis has passed.

“We have completed the first phase of the fight against the crisis in Moria,” he told Greek TV channel Skai on Sunday.

The new structure is working, he said of the tent camp, which was set up in a short time to accommodate some 12,000 people who were homeless after the Moriya refugee camp fire.

According to Mitarakis, about 10,000 people moved to a camp at Kara-Tepe on the east coast of the island. He did not say where the other 2,000 people are. Some migrants are reluctant to move to the new camp for fear that they will not be allowed to leave.
