EU threatens Turkey with new sanctions for gas production in the Eastern Mediterranean

Some European Union countries are threatening Turkey with new sanctions. They want to introduce measures against Ankara if it refuses to negotiate with Greece and Cyprus on territorial differences.

This statement was made public after the meeting of the MED-7 group (Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain).

The Greek and Cypriot authorities oppose Turkey’s natural gas production in the Eastern Mediterranean. At the same time, the Turkish side insists on its right to explore this territory.
