The U.S. will transfer forces withdrawn from Germany to other European countries

“More than 34 thousand servicemen are stationed in Germany. About 10 thousand of them will be lined up in battle formations throughout the European continent, that is, withdrawn from the FRG. This is done in order to strengthen the allies within the NATO partnership, in order to certainly contribute to their effectiveness, ” McCarthy said.

From the minister’s point of view, the outlined plans will allow the United States to strengthen its containment of Russia.

“This gives us a much more powerful disposition across the continent to emphasize deterrence. Because containment is key: having people on the ground to send the signal that we are standing shoulder to shoulder with our allies will repel any threat. This creates an initial buffer between us and our nearest competitor. But it also sends the most powerful message to the Allies that we are placing America’s sons and daughters and their families directly on the ground, side by side with host troops, ” McCarthy said.

He answered in the affirmative to a clarifying question about whether the US forces leaving the FRG would be relocated to other parts of Europe.

“They’ll be lined up in battle formations across the continent, that’s right,” said the US Secretary of the Army.
