The President of Cyprus pesented Lavrov with the highest award of the island republic

Lavrov thanked Nikos Anastasiades for the honor.

“We consider your contribution to the development of historical ties between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cyprus, based on the principles of international law and common values, invaluable. Within the framework of these values and in connection with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, we have decided to present you on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus the Grand Cross of the Order of Archbishop Makarios III”, – said the President to the Russian Minister, whom he received in the presidential palace in Nicosia.

Lavrov thanked Anastasiades for the honor. According to him, Russian-Cypriot relations “are developing steadily, reflecting the mutual desire of our peoples to communicate with each other, based on our common historical and spiritual code.

“The immutability of our line to strengthen friendship with Cyprus and the Cypriot people was confirmed again in your recent conversation with President [of Russia Vladimir] Putin”, –  the minister said. – “And I can assure you that all those agreements that were reached between the presidents of our countries, will be implemented, and the Russian Foreign Ministry will continue to actively develop our cooperation”.

The Order of Makarios III was established in 1991 in memory of the founder of the independent state of Cyprus, the first president of the Republic, Archbishop Makarios III. This award is given to heads of state, prominent figures of our time and those who have shown the greatest diligence in their service to the Republic of Cyprus.
