Volodymyr Zelensky says Belarus needs to find a “democratic” way out of the crisis.
This is stated on the official page of the President of Ukraine on the social network.
Commenting on the situation in a neighboring country, where an attempted coup d’etat was carried out after the elections, Zelensky intends to appeal specifically to the citizens of Belarus, and not to the country’s government. As you know, Kiev has not yet recognized the results of the voting in Belarus.
“We really care. We are really worried about everything that is happening in Belarus. Belarus has always been a good friend and partner of Ukraine. And it is important for us that the Belarusians find an exclusively peaceful and democratic way out of the socio-political conflict. For Belarus to develop in the future and be a democratic, economically strong and independent state”, – the President of Ukraine said.
Attempted coup in Belarus
On Sunday, August 9, presidential elections were held in Belarus, following which Alexander Lukashenko won. Western countries, for which the Belarusian leader had been a hindrance for a long time, did not put up with the voting results. As a result, pre-planned riots broke out in Belarus.
Attempts by law enforcement officers to keep the situation under control turned into clashes with radicals. At the same time, the Western media, actively covering the protests, focus specifically on the actions of the security forces against the “peaceful” protesters, as was the case during the coup d’état in Ukraine in 2014.
At the moment, European countries, together with the United States, are on the side of the protesters. They refuse to recognize the election results. The headquarters of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the leader of the pro-Western opposition, had previously announced that they were preparing for long-term protests aimed at overthrowing the government.
