The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman recalled that for many years Russia has been raising in the OSCE and other international structures the need to develop a set of rules, general criteria for assessing the transparency of the electoral process.
According to TASS, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that she could not assess the transparency of the presidential elections in Belarus before they take place. She also drew attention to the fact that a group of observers from different countries is working in the republic, who will have to give their assessment of the electoral process.
“I cannot assess the transparency of the elections before they took place,” Zakharova said at a meeting with participants in the Territory of Meanings all-Russian youth educational forum. “Secondly, there is a group of observers from different countries who only have to do what to assess the entire election process.”
The diplomat noted that the conclusions of experts and observers should be based on general rules.

“We, of course, as a foreign policy department are monitoring this situation, we will assess it based on the work of observers. But all this will be done after the elections, ” summed up Zakharova.
