The North Atlantic alliance is getting closer and closer to Russian state borders, but Washington should be careful not to have to rapidly revise its approach later.
Austrian political scientist Patrick Poppel spoke about this in a comment for the German edition of News Front.
According to him, NATO’s expansion may turn out to be far from in the interests of the United States.
The expert considers the approach of the Western bloc to be frivolous, as it is capable of provoking a serious crisis. Russia is quite capable of gaining a foothold in the Caribbean. If this happens, the situation will repeat itself, which happened in the 60s of the last century, and the United States will have to retreat from the borders of the Russian Federation, revising its further strategy.

“We do not need a new Cuban crisis, but Russia could certainly have a stronger influence in Latin America and the Caribbean,” Poppel said, stressing that Russia is the only power that can wrest Latin American countries out of the US embrace.
