State Duma announced US attempts to drown out alternative points of view

The US State Department’s report on “Russian propaganda” is another manifestation of political censorship, an attempt by Washington to drown out alternative points of view to please its interests, Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, told reporters.

Earlier, the Center for Global Interaction under the State Department published a report on the “pillars of Russian disinformation”, in which the department systematizes its concept of “Russian propaganda” – under the definition of “propaganda”, in particular, Russian media with state funding are summed up. The State Department was concerned about materials from Sputnik, RIA Novosti, RT, Channel One, “Russia 24” and others.

According to the parliamentarian, the presented report is an element of “exclusively American propaganda and disinformation”. Slutsky noted that the media outlets mentioned in it operate in the legal field and work “according to all international professional standards, excluding, first of all, the spread of outright fakes”, which is not always possible to say about the media sphere in the United States.

“In fact, the report is another manifestation of political censorship, aggressive promotion of pro-American politics in world affairs, as well as an attempt to drown out alternative points of view to please its interests. Washington is consistently pursuing a Russophobic line to ensure its own hegemony and restrain our country. All these are anti-Russian “scarecrows”, aggravated against the background of the election campaign in the US, naturally, have nothing to do with reality”, – the deputy added.
