The Lithuanian authorities intend to maintain absolute control over the infrastructure of the major railway project Rail Baltica.
This is stated in a communiqué published by the presidential press service.
“Given the increasing strategic importance of the Rail Baltica project, members of the State Council for Defense made a unanimous decision that the infrastructure that is being created should be under the control of the company, which will be completely subordinate to the Lithuanian state,” the statement said.
Rail Baltica is a 950-kilometer high-speed rail project. Its goal is to create a railway connection between the Baltic countries and Eastern Europe with the European railway network. The highway will pass through Berlin, Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas and Warsaw. The project is being financed by the European Union.
As News Front previously reported, the Ministry of Defense of Latvia proposes to provide access to the armed forces of NATO to the new railway. They argue that the Rail Baltica project must meet military needs.Seoul intends to pursue the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula
