“The conference will reaffirm the international community’s political support for the reforms under way in the Sudan. It is also intended to mobilize financial support for a democratic transition, economic recovery and an improvement in the humanitarian situation”, –  the document said. In addition, the conference will be an opportunity for the Government of the Sudan to share with the international community the reforms that have already been undertaken.

The video conference will be co-chaired by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk and UN Secretary General António Guterres.

The conference will be attended by representatives of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and African Development Bank.

The economy of Sudan has been severely affected by years of U.S. sanctions and the separation of oil-rich South Sudan in 2011. Currently, the Sudan is living with uncontrolled inflation and a chronic shortage of hard currency.
