The U.S. Democratic congressmen introduced a bill on Thursday to block President Donald Trump’s plan to remove 9,500 troops from Germany.
It is reported by the “European truth” with reference to the Reuters agency.
The bill proposes to ban financing of the withdrawal of the US forces from Europe without agreement with Congress.
The paper, entitled “Protecting US National Security Interests in Europe”, was presented by Eliot Engel, Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee and Robert Menendez, member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The bill prohibits funding for the withdrawal or reduction of the presence of the US troops in Europe, unless requested by the government of the country where the American troops are stationed.
Funding is allowed if the President announces the intention to withdraw troops in 180 days, but Congress must approve a decision justified by the president.
In accordance with the distribution of powers in the United States, the Senate and the House of Representatives, and not the White House, control government spending.
Trump said Monday that he would reduce the number of US troops in Germany to 25,000. He accused Berlin of failing to achieve NATO’s defense spending goal and using the US in trade issues.Afghanistan school bombing: nine students killed
