Donald Trump only revealed the long-standing problem in the United States, which was actively used in the interests of the elites.
This is stated in the material of the American edition of The New York Times.
As News Front previously reported, riots have not subsided in the United States since last week. The uprising began in Minneapolis, where a policeman killed African-American George Floyd. The man was detained on suspicion of forging a check for $20. During the arrest, the policeman began to press his knee on Floyd’s neck. He said that he had nothing to breathe, but the policeman did not listen. As a result, the detainee died.
The incident led to protests that swept the whole country in a few days. Pogroms are recorded in large cities, including New York and Washington. Thr US President Donald Trump, in turn, does not exclude the possibility that the protests will be suppressed with the help of federal troops.
“Donald Trump, far from trying to calm the nation, pours gasoline into the fire. He seems to be very close to trying to foment a civil war”, – NYT commented on what was happening, emphasizing that “America, as we know it, is on the edge”.
However, the author draws attention to the fact that white racism has existed in the United States for a long time. Moreover, for four decades now, the elites have been using it to achieve their own goals.
“The rich elites armed white racism in order to gain political power, which they used to pursue a policy that enriched the already rich at the expense of the workers”, – the article says.
It was hard to deny this American reality even before Donald Trump came to power, writes the New York Times. Nevertheless, Trump became the one who brought the situation to its climax and showed what they had tried to somehow hide before.
“On the one hand, he actually incites violence from his supporters. On the other hand, he is very close to calling for a military response to social protest. And at this moment no one expects any significant rollback from other Republicans”, – the author writes.
Previously, the publication noted that everything that is happening in the United States is only the beginning of the economic collapse caused by the pandemic.
