Pompeo believes that the Chinese authorities were trying to hide information about the coronavirus

U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo believes that the Chinese authorities have tried to hide some information about the proliferation of coronavirus and will be held responsible for this. The U.S. foreign policy chief made this statement on Wednesday on Fox News.

“We know that the virus originated from Chinese Wuhan, we don’t know where it came from yet,” he said. “We also know that the Chinese Communist Party has not been honest. We know that when doctors tried to tell us about it, they weren’t allowed. We know that American journalists were kicked out. We know that they tried to hide it”, –  Pompeo added.

“We have a responsibility to do everything we can to bring to justice those responsible for causing such serious damage to the global economy as well as harm to the lives of Americans and people around the world”, –  the secretary of state said. – “We’re going to focus on keeping people safe for now, and then the time will come when not only the U.S. but I think the whole world will understand what happened. I think in the end, the Chinese Communist Party will be responsible for what was done”,-  Pompeo added.

China’s Deputy Foreign Minister Le Yucheng said in an interview with the U.S. television company NBC on Wednesday that any claim for compensation put forward to Beijing in connection with the coronavirus is ridiculous and a “political farce”. “There is no international law that would support accusations against a country that was simply the first to report the disease,” the Chinese diplomat said.

Le Yucheng also expressed regret that “some politicians are using the situation with the virus to shelf China. At the same time, he reiterated that Beijing “did not hide any information” about the coronavirus.
