During a visit to Russia, the head of the Hamas Political Bureau thanked Moscow for protecting and supporting the rights of the Palestinians and for rejecting the US proposal regarding Israel.

“He [Chania] also expressed gratitude to Russia for its position regarding the [US President Donald] Trump’s deal, because the refusal of the deal is consistent with the opinion of the Palestinian people,” the Hamas website said in an official statement.

Haniya also emphasized that Hamas supports all efforts to reconcile the Palestinians, and stated that he was ready to meet with President Mahmoud Abbas with other Palestinian groups under the auspices of Russia, Egypt or both countries.

Lavrov, for his part, reaffirmed the importance of Palestinian unity and expressed Russia’s readiness to help the Palestinians. Moscow, he added, “rejects Trump’s agreement and does not believe that this is a plan that creates peace and security in the region.”
