Kremlin told about contacts between Russia and Turkey on the situation in Idlib

Russia and Turkey have “their own set of concerns” on the situation in Idlib, contacts, including those at the highest level, continue, said spokesman for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

“So far, the last contact between the two Presidents has actually confirmed that each side has its own set of concerns regarding the situation in Idlib. The main concern of Moscow is that concentration of terrorist groups continues in Idlib, in fact, in the zone of responsibility of the Turkish republic, aggressive activity continues these terrorist groups, and these aggressive actions are directed against the armed forces of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as Russian military installations in the territory of SAR. Contacts, including those at the highest level, continue”, – Peskov said, answering the question of whether there is a danger of collapse of the agreements between Turkey and Russia due to the growing tension around the situation in Idlib.

The Syrian army launched an offensive in the west of Aleppo on January 26 in connection with daily bombardment by terrorists of residential areas of the city, which killed dozens of civilians. Terrorists continued shelling contrary to the ceasefire announced in January. Last week, Syrian artillery destroyed the firing positions and strongholds of the militants, from where the shelling was fired. On January 27, government forces managed to break through the first lines of defense of terrorists in the west of Aleppo.

The General Staff of the Syrian army on January 29 announced the liberation of the large city of Maaret Nuuman, held by militants since 2012. The city is of strategic importance, as it is located at the junction of the Aleppo-Hama highway. He was one of the largest strongholds of terrorists and a transit point for supply routes in the south of Idlib province.
