Pentagon tries to hide fatal vulnerability in the US nuclear shield

The huge military budget does not save Americans from a “hole” in the missile defense system directly above their heads.

This was told by the head of the program on energy, growth and security at the Center for International Trade and Investment Ariel Cohen in his publication for the publication “The Hill”.

He lamented that China is now boasting of the second most powerful army in the world, Russia is setting the tone for its supersonic weapons, and even North Korea has tested the Pukgukson-3 ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear charge. The problem is, Cohen believes, that the United States was not ready for such a development. In particular, the missile defense system is suffering.

The expert recalled how the Iranian military in response to the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani launched a missile attack on the Iraqi military base Ein al-Assad, where the American armed forces were stationed. Then the Americans managed to avoid losses, but not at the expense of reliable missile defense systems. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps merely demonstrated restraint. Everything was different, and the US troops would not even have enough missile defense to repel this blow.

“It is fortunate that no one died”, – he emphasizes.

At the same time, the author of the article draws attention to the fact that the “strategic respite” that the United States received after the collapse of the Soviet Union ended long ago. In this regard, he mentioned the development in Russia of the Burevestnik global-range cruise missile with a nuclear power plant.

This is enough for the United States to begin modernizing its missile defense system. The United States Missile Defense Agency alone, due to a funding gap of two decades, focuses on ground-based interceptors. Now the Pentagon has 44 of them at its disposal. Only the military department prefers not to spread about the fact that there is a solid “hole” in the nuclear shield right over the eastern coast of the United States. The notorious Aegis systems could serve as a missile defense system, however, their role is offset by the fact that they are too scattered around the world.
