The Permanent Representative of Iran called the U.S. offer of cooperation pointless

The proposal makes no sense as long as American sanctions against Tehran are in place, Majid Takht Ravanci stressed.

The U.S. proposal to cooperate with Iran makes no sense as long as U.S. sanctions against Tehran are in place. Post-President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN Majid Takht Ravanci said this on Thursday.

“When we hear [the U.S.] announce possible cooperation and decide at the same meeting to toughen sanctions, such proposals make no sense”, –  the IRNA quoted him as saying.

Takht-Ravanchi added that “the U.S. has imposed numerous sanctions against Iran since the withdrawal from the nuclear deal, thus putting serious pressure on Iranians’ lives”.

According to him, Washington’s sanctions “are economic terrorism and are contrary to international law. “A few days ago, the U.S. government carried out a terrorist attack and killed General Kassem Suleimani, thus opening a new chapter of hostility with the Iranian people”, –  said the Iranian representative.

U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the White House on Wednesday in connection with Iran’s missile strike against U.S. military facilities in Iraq. He said he was ready for peace with Tehran and called on the Iranian side to jointly fight the terrorist group “Islamic State”, calling it the “real enemy” of the republic.

At the same time, Trump announced Washington’s intention to immediately introduce new tough sanctions against Tehran, which “will remain in force until Iran changes its behavior”.
