Norway is waiting for the United States to explain the murder of Suleimani

However, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry does not condemn the murder itself.

Norway expects the US to explain why Iranian General Kasem Suleimani was killed. This was announced on Thursday by Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide.

“We said very clearly that we do not know the reasons why the U.S. took such actions. We and other allies have asked the U.S. for more information about it”, –  the Norwegian Telegraph Bureau quoted her as saying. However, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry does not condemn the murder itself.

The situation in the Middle East has sharply escalated after the January 3 night U.S. missile strike near Baghdad airport, which killed Kasem Suleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps special forces (elite units of Iran’s Armed Forces). In response, on the night of January 8, Tehran launched a rocket attack on two sites in Iraq that were used by the U.S. military: Ain al-Assad base and Erbil airport.

On January 5, the Islamic Republic announced the final stage of reducing voluntary commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal. Tehran’s new move assumes that it will not comply with the restrictions on the number of centrifuges for uranium enrichment set out in the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan for the Iranian Nuclear Programme.
