Ali Shamkhani noted the successful strategic secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council .

Ali Shamkhani stated the need to develop bilateral cooperation with Russia to ensure regional security. He said this during a meeting with Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolay Patrushev, which was held on Wednesday in Tehran.

“During the meeting, Shamkhani stated the need to deepen the efforts of the two countries to ensure stability and security in the region”, –  the press service of the Iranian Embassy in Russia said. He also noted “successful strategic cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism.

Shamkhani “highly appreciated Russia’s principled position on countering the U.S. illegal actions in the nuclear deal. “If European countries continue to fail to keep their promises, we will be forced to take the next step in reducing our obligations [as part of the nuclear deal]”, –  he added.

In turn, Patrushev “noted the need for cooperation between all parties to ensure stability and security in Syria. “Political initiatives within the framework of the Astana process are crucial to prevent the resurgence of terrorist activity”, –  he said.

The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation stressed the importance of implementing the nuclear deal. “Full implementation by all parties of their obligations is necessary to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA)”, –  he noted.
