The American administration has no right to determine European energy policy.
This statement was made by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, commenting on Washington’s decision to blacklist companies involved in the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project. The restrictions were dragged through the U.S. Congress, including them as amendments to the country’s military budget for 2020.
The Foreign Minister stressed that Berlin rejects extraterritorial sanctions, which the United States is trying to influence in Europe.
“Europe’s energy policy is determined in Europe, not in the United States. External attacks and extraterritorial sanctions are categorically unacceptable for us”, – said Maas.
As News Front reported earlier, the head of the Eastern Committee of German Economy Oliver Hermes called the U.S. sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 project an open attack on the sovereignty of the European Union.
