Serbia has a chance to become the first European country to recognize the Russian status of Crimea, if it does not delay in this matter.

This opinion was expressed by the head of the Committee of People’s Diplomacy and International Relations of the State Council of Crimea, Yuri Gempel, at the RIA Novosti news agency.

The Crimean delegation is on a friendly visit to Serbia and has already held several meetings to discuss opportunities for the development of trade, economic, humanitarian and other ties between Crimea and Belgrade.

“Serbia has a chance to go down in history as the first European country to follow the path of justice and recognize the will of the Crimean people”, –  said Yuri Gempel. – “Serbia should not hesitate with this issue”.

According to the deputy, the fact that Serbia has recognized the results of the All-Crimean referendum in 2014 would open new opportunities for the development of Russian-Serbian relations. On the first day of the visit, the members of the delegation met with the parliamentary opposition party “Doors”, offering their colleagues to expand the scope of public diplomacy and exchange delegations at different levels. The Crimeans also offered the Serbian MPs to hold friendly football and hockey matches.

The delegation of Crimea, which is in Serbia these days, includes deputies of the State Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, members of the government of the republic, representatives of national communities. The delegation is headed by Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, Permanent Representative of the President of the Russian Federation Georgy Muradov.
