“This is just speculation”, –  the diplomat said in a request to confirm media reports stating that China had suggested the United States hold a meeting of the leaders of the two countries and sign the first part of the trade agreement in Macau.

He added that the parties are in constant contact and are preparing to hold another telephone conversation on Friday to discuss the text of the trade agreement and related issues.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said the White House is looking for an alternative place to sign the first part of a trade deal with China after the cancellation of the APEC summit in Chile. According to him, the place will be announced soon.

Earlier, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said that “the parties are close to finalizing some parts of the agreement”.

US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin said that trade negotiators are working to agree on the first part of a trade agreement that leaders in the United States and China will sign next month. The next round of trade negotiations between the parties took place in the first half of October, following which Washington decided to postpone the increase in import duties on Chinese goods, which was supposed to happen on October 15.
