Russian Foreign Ministry condemns the attack in Afghan Nangarhar

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack in the Afghan province of Nangarhar and expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

The Pazhvak Agency reported on October 18 that unidentified people fired rockets at a mosque in the Haska Mina area in the Afghan province of Nangarhar in the east of the country during Friday prayers. As noted by the agency, as a result of the explosion, the roof of the mosque collapsed.

More than 70 people were killed, another 60 were injured. So far, not a single group operating in the region has claimed responsibility for what happened.

“We strongly condemn this crime. We express our condolences to the families and friends of the victims, we wish a speedy recovery to the victims”, – the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Department said in a statement.

The department added that the terrorist attack “aims to maintain an atmosphere of fear in Afghan society”, a lasting peace in Afghanistan, to which the warring parties of the conflict and the international community are working, is contrary to the interests of the terrorists who aim at settling in the country.

“We consider it necessary to do everything possible to prevent these plans from being realized. We urge the Afghan authorities to take urgent measures to ensure the security of civilians and increase the effectiveness of the fight against terrorist elements in the country, primarily, the destruction of the bases of the international terrorist organization ISIS *”, – the Foreign Ministry notes.
