The trade confrontation that erupts between the European Union and the United States after Washington imposed duties on European goods will entail dangerous consequences for the entire world economy.
With such a message, the European Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström, addressed the American administration, the newspaper El Pais reports.
She noted that customs duties “will become a threat to jobs on both sides of the Atlantic” at such a “delicate moment.” Against this background, the official called on Washington to seek a constructive way out of this situation, while expressing regret that “the decision seems to have been taken.”
The message was addressed to the representative of the United States at the trade talks, Robert Lightheiser, after Europe began to demand a reaction to the plans of the United States.
As News Front previously reported, Washington has long considered plans to introduce customs duties on European goods, in particular cars. Together with Brexit, this could seriously hit the European Union. In many ways, this gloomy situation explains Europe’s aspirations to establish relations with Russia as soon as possible.
