French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian initiated an urgent meeting of the international coalition to combat the Islamic State.

It is reported by Reuters.

“France suggests holding a meeting of the international coalition in order to wage a decisive struggle. The main thing here is our security, which was under attack due to the Turkish offensive”, – the minister said.

He expressed concern that the Islamic State might take advantage of the “local changes,” in particular the situation in Syria, to regain its influence.

“Today, the coalition must say what we will do next, how Turkey wants to act, and how will we ensure the security of those places where militants are kept in prisons? All this needs to be discussed so that it is clear to us”, – said Le Drian.

Recall, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkish troops launched Operation Peace Spring in northern Syria.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized that Turkey’s military operation in northeastern Syria should be restrained. The European Union noted that a reliable solution to the Syrian conflict cannot be achieved by military means.
