Doubtful judicial reforms initiated by the Polish leadership, once again become the cause of disagreement between Warsaw and the European Union.
So, on Thursday, October 10, the European Commission applied a lawsuit to the European Court of Justice, charging Warsaw with putting pressure on the judicial system through taking disciplinary measures against judges.
The corresponding statement was circulated by the press service of the European Commission.
“The European Commission decided to apply a lawsuit to the European Court of Justice. Considering the existing threat that the disciplinary code against judges could undermine the principle of objectivity of the Polish judicial system, the European Commission hopes that the final decision on this application will be made soon”, – the Press release said.
At the same time, it is noted that before a court decision is made, the European Commission intends to seek Warsaw to eliminate violations and resolve the situation in the Polish judicial system and relevant legislation.
As News Front previously reported, the confrontation between Brussels and the ruling Polish party “Law and Justice” has been going on for a long time. Warsaw has repeatedly been accused by the EU of infringing on media freedom, as well as the independence of the judiciary. Last year, the conflict reached the point where in Europe they began to talk about the likely withdrawal of Poland from the EU according to the Brexit principle. What is more, the European Commission’s lawsuit can only aggravate the crisis.
