The government’s debate over the country’s possible accession to the US missile defense raised concerns about tension between Norway and Russia.

“Through a broader assessment of security policy, the government decided that Norway was not considering acquiring detection sensors or NATO missile defense interceptors,” the state budget comments said.

Since 2010, Norway has supported NATO’s decision to create a missile defense system, but has been opposed to the United States participating in these plans. Initially, the Norwegians were convinced that the missile defense was not aimed at Russia, however, time has shown that all these funds are intended solely to deter and provoke the Russian Federation.
