Bolivian President Evo Morales said on Tuesday that he wants to be the president of the best Bolivia in history, within the framework of the 194th anniversary of the independence of the South American country.

“I don’t want to be the best president of Bolivia, I want to be the president of the best Bolivia in our history,” Morales said.

The Bolivian president made the statements during the honorary session of the Plurinational Assembly that took place in the Amazon city of Trinidad. The Bolivian leader called for the protection of social progress secured in Bolivia, saying that “as long as we maintain unity, we will be able to protect what has been achieved and build a better future for Bolivian families.”

Uruguay’s former president, Jose ‘Pepe’ Mujica, also attended the celebrations.

Bolivia gained its independence during a revolutionary process between 1809 and 1825, when it managed to free itself from the control of the Spanish monarchy.
