Police braced themselves for a third day of protests in Tel Aviv on Wednesday after an Ethiopian-Israeli teen was shot dead by an off-duty police officer over the weekend.

There were tense scenes are police sought to prevent protesters from blocking roads, forcibly dragging many activists away.

Riots broke out on Tuesday night during demonstrators were able to block main roads and set a car on fire. Police said 136 arrests were made while dozens of officers suffered injuries.

The violent episode came as a response to the death of 18-year-old Solomon Tekah, who was killed by a bullet shot by an off-duty police officer. The person in question said he felt his life was in danger after youths started throwing rocks at him.

Solomon’s family has demanded an immediate investigation. The Ethiopian community in Israel has long complained of mistreatment at the hands of authorities.
