France: Brexit Party MEPs turn their backs during EU’s ‘Ode to Joy’ anthem

UK’s Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage led other members including newly elected candidates Ann Widdecombe and Annunziata Rees-Mogg, as they turned their backs during a rendition of the EU’s anthem ‘Ode To Joy’ at a European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg on Tuesday, to protest against the ongoing Brexit crisis.

Other members of the party in the parliament reportedly refused to stand at all, reflecting the deep divisions between the EU and the UK.

Tuesday marks the opening of the new five-year session of the parliament, though the length of the UK’s involvement remains in doubt. UK MEPs may sit in the parliament until the country formally leaves the EU.
