UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet met with ministers of Nicolas Maduro’s government at the headquarters of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry in Caracas on Thursday.
After meeting with several government ministers, Venezuelan Minister of Planning Ricardo Menendez said to the press that they informed Bachelet of “the attack on Venezuela,” which he went on to describe as “a systematic attack from the point of view of North American imperialism, it has been an attack against the national economy.”
Bachelet will reportedly hold separate meetings with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaido. In addition, she will meet and speak with civil society leaders and “victims of human rights violence and abuses,” reports say.
At the end of her visit on June 21, Bachelet is expected to deliver a statement. In July, she will reportedly submit a report to the UN Human Rights Council.
