New Zealand media organisations have agreed to curb their reporting of the Christchurch shootings trial to ensure it “does not promote white supremacist ideology”.

Brenton Harrison Tarrant faces 50 counts of murder and 39 counts of attempted murder after the largest mass shooting in New Zealand’s modern history, in which two mosques were targeted last month.

The country’s five biggest media organisations, RNZ, Stuff, Mediaworks, TVNZ and NZME, have all agreed to a set of reporting protocols ahead of his next court appearance on 14 June.
