Chief of the German Center for Eurasian Studies, who regularly visits Russia, shared his opinion on the expulsion of Russian diplomats from a number of the Western countries. According to Manuel Ochsenreiter, the incident with Skripal unexpectedly united all European governments.

After all before the incident in Salisbury, the European Union was ranting against the UK amid its negotiations on Brexit.

“So far, anti-Russian sentiments are once again uniting the countries of the European Union in a “poisonous political harmony.” However, it should be noted that neither Russia nor Europe will benefit from this. Italy is now under very great pressure, as the government does not particularly want to fit into such “anti-Russian harmony.” Just imagine, Rome does not agree with other European countries, which will immediately turn to aggressive actions against Italy,” Manuel Ochsenreiter said.

According to the German expert, the lack of evidence and ruthless rhetoric of London shows the political consequence of the “scandal about the scandal”.

“The political consequence can be seen right now: Russia’s great opposition, the unity of the European Union, a deeper alliance with the US against the Russian threat. In other words, if in the end the investigation shows that Russia is not involved in the Salisbury incident – all this will not change,” assured Manuel Ochsenreiter.
