US President Donald Trump has said he had passed on a likely nomination by Time magazine to become its “person of the year” for the second time.
Trump said on Twitter that the New York City based magazine said he was “probably” going to be named the person who had the greatest influence over the news in the last 12 months if he agreed to an interview and a photo shoot, but he “took a pass.”
However, Time Magazine has denied Donald Trump’s claim that it called him to say he was likely to get another “person of the year” award next month.
“The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6,” the magazine tweeted.
Trump was picked in 2016 as the person who had the most influence over the news after he won the US presidential election. This year, a Time poll shows Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman in the lead with 21 percent of votes.
