American television channel CNN reported on Monday that it had received electronic correspondence relating to last year’s meeting of the son of American leader Donald Trump, Jr., with Russian lawyer Natalya Veselnitskaya in New York.
As follows from the material published on the website of the channel, it is a correspondence between Veselnitskaya and producer Rob Goldstone, who previously confirmed that it was he who organized the meeting. E-mails allegedly provided to CNN attorney Scott Balber, whose clients are businessman Araz Agalarov and his son Emin. The latter, as the media claimed, was the initiator of this meeting. According to the TV channel, from the materials received at his disposal, it follows that Veselnitskaya expected that the meeting would concern the “Magnitsky Act”, adopted in the US, which provides for sanctions measures against a number of Russian officials, as well as prospects for improving relations between Moscow and Washington .
CNN notes that in an interview with her reporters Balber pointed out that for Veselnitskaya the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possibility of canceling the “Magnitsky Act”. The lawyer did not rule out that Goldstone or the representatives of Donald Trump Jr. misinterpreted Veselnitskaya’s intentions, believing that she could provide information of a compromising nature about ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The latter was at that time a presidential candidate for Democrats and the main rival of the current US leader, Donald Trump, in the elections.
