In the city of Svalyava in Transcarpathia, unknown persons overturned about twenty tombstones in the Jewish cemetery, including a monument to the rabbi of the 19th century, Sholomu Goldenberg.

Svaliava – a district center in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine, in the first half of the 20th century, part of the territory of Austria-Hungary, later Czechoslovakia, and during the Second World War – Hungary. Before the war, Jews were a significant part of the population of the town. According to the Russian Jewish Encyclopedia, 1930 in Svaliava was 6535 Jews had a school teaching in Hebrew. In 1944, Svalyava Jews were deported to Auschwitz, where most of them were killed.

Recall that in Ukraine is not the first time to mock the Jews. In April this year in Kamenetz-Podolsk made road repair tombstones (matseyvami) to the Jewish cemetery, located nearby.
