As racial tensions simmer across the US in the wake of the Charlottesville violence, a Colorado man attempted to stab a stranger, who he apparently mistook for a neo-Nazi, in the head.

“All I hear is, ‘Are you one of them neo-Nazis?’ as this dude is swinging a knife up over my car door at me,” Joshua Witt, 26, wrote of the incident, which took place Wednesday August 16, on Facebook.

“Apparently I look like a neo-nazi and got stabbed for it … luckily I put my hands up to stop it so he only stabbed my hand…. please keep in mind there was no conversation between me and this dude, I was literally just getting out of my car,” he added.

Witt’s fast reactions spared him any serious injury and he managed to lock himself in his car and drive away before the situation could escalate further.

“It threw me off guard that’s for sure but really there’s no mental damage I guess you would call it,” Witt told RT.

One potential motive for the attack, which has been voiced in the media, is Witt’s haircut and its apparent similarity to some of those boasted by neo-Nazis.

“I hear a lot of people saying it was the haircut as well but for all I know this dude could’ve been on drugs or just out of his right mind. I don’t know.”

Witt needed three stitches on the wound sustained during the attack. He filed a police report immediately but the suspect, described by Witt as a “black male, mid 20s, slim build, about 5’10” I’m guessing, 160-ish pounds wearing a green shirt and blue jeans,” remains at large.
