Thousands marched through downtown Caracas in support of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his newly opened National Constituent Assembly, Monday.
The country’s electorate chose representatives to form an assembly that will have the power to draft a new Venezuelan constitution in a high-profile election on July 30th, which the opposition and much of the international community have dubbed a ‘power-grab’ by the president.
Diosdado Cabello, Vice President of the United Socialist Party, also took aim at the wider reaction to an attack at a military barracks near Valencia on Sunday.
“They attacked a barracks, and the world went ‘a coup in Venezuela’. ‘A military rebellion’. The day that there’s a military rebellion, it will be from the nation’s armed force imposing the Bolivarian Revolution with even more force,” Cabello said.
