Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Russia and Indonesia will present a document on “countering the ideology of terrorism” at an upcoming meeting of the East Asian Summit in Manila, speaking to the press on the sidelines of an ASEAN meeting in the Philippine capital on Tuesday.

SOT Sergei Lavrov, Foreign Minister of Russia (Russian): “At the meeting of the leaders of the East Asian Summit, which will be held in Manila in the autumn, a decision has been made to produce a draft document, prepared together by Russia and Indonesia. It is dedicated to counteracting the ideology of terrorism. Everybody agreed that this is the most important topic and it is necessary to deal with it closely. We are also promoting a similar initiative in New York, within the framework of the United Nations.”

I expect that, with a sensible approach from all players, including the United States, the Republic of Korea and Japan, we will be able to find a solution that suits all parties.”
