Joint efforts of Russia and India and development of bilateral relations is the guarantee of international security across the Eurasia, Russian lawmaker and the head of the State Duma’s group on connections with the Parliament of India Pavel Dorokhin said on Tuesday, adding that the fight against terrorism is one of Russia’s key priorities.

“On behalf of all lawmakers I would like to assure you that Russia is united in the fight against terrorism, which cannot be justified … The main issue I want to touch upon is that our joint efforts, our unity in development of bilateral relations [which is the] guarantee strengthening of international security across the Eurasian space. And we are truly optimistic about our future,” Dorokhin said during the fourth meeting of the Russian-Indian inter-parliamentary commission.

He added that he was aware of the tragic events in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, where terrorists attacked a bus with pilgrims on their way to the Amarnath Temple, killing at least seven people and injuring 12.
On behalf of other lawmakers Dorokhin expressed condolences to the people of India and asked the Indian delegation to convey the words of support and sympathy to the families and friends of the victims, as well as to wish speedy recovery to the injured.

In June, India alongside Pakistan officially became a full-fledged member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a political, military and economic alliance, now comprising Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The region of Kashmir has been repeatedly targeted by different extremist groups, with clashes between the country’s law enforcement officials and terrorists continuing despite the government’s efforts to tackle terrorism.
