NATO’s multinational battle group troops attended a welcome ceremony at the Adazi military base, Monday.

The Canada-led multinational NATO group was greeted by Latvia’s President Raimonds Vejonis, Defence Minister Raimonds Bergmanis, Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan, as well as NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

The Latvian NATO combat group consists of more than 1,000 soldiers from Italy, Albania, Poland, Slovenia, and Spain and is headed by Canadian specialists.

The battle group deployment for NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence follows an agreement by NATO member states at the 2016 Warsaw summit to deploy multinational battalion battle groups to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
