Berlin supports the position according to which Kiev will begin to restore control over the Donbass-Russian border after the elections in the DPR and LPR.
This was stated by the German ambassador to Ukraine, Ernst Reichel.
In February, he already said that the elections in the DPR and LPR could be held before the border was returned to Ukraine. Berlin later confirmed that his words did not contradict the official position of Germany.
He reminded that this was stipulated by the Minsk Agreements.
‘This is not the document that I developed. This is agreed by all those parties that have signed it,’ the ambassador said.
At the same time, he noted that he received confirmation from Berlin that the German government supported his position.
‘I have received confirmation from Berlin that I have the full support of my government regarding what I said,’ said Reichel.
The ambassador also said that he did not want to discuss his earlier assumptions that holding elections in Donbass was possible in the presence of Russian troops.
