The European Union declared that they did not recognize the documents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and would not let their owners into the countries of the union.
‘We believe that this decree (on Russia’s recognition of the documents issued by the DPR and LPR) does not correspond to the spirit of the Minsk Agreements. We continue to support the territorial integrity, sovereignty and unity of Ukraine and the full implementation of the Minsk Agreements. We have also said that travel documents are not recognized by the European Union,’ said the spokesperson for the European External Action Service, Maya Kosjancic.
On February 18, the Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an order recognizing the documents of residents of certain regions of Donbass as valid on the territory of Russia.
